It’s Friday the 13th again. And people are either joking or serious about their superstitions about the day. I am so tired and weary about this happening over and over again. I can understand that non Christians are superstitions but don’t you think Christians should know better?
Earlier, before you knew God personally, you were enslaved to so-called gods that had nothing of the divine about them. But now that you know the real God—or rather since God knows you—how can you possibly subject yourselves again to those paper tigers? For that is exactly what you do when you are intimidated into scrupulously observing all the traditions, taboos, and superstitions associated with special days and seasons and years. I am afraid that all my hard work among you has gone up in a puff of smoke! (Galatians 4:8-11,MSG, emphasis added,*)
All the promises of God are valid every single day, Friday the 13th is no exception. There is no such a thing as a superstitious Christian. You need to choose whether you believe in superstitions or in God Almighty. If you have trouble laying down your superstitions, ask God to help you. Grace is way more powerful than anything in this world.
Watch out for people who try to dazzle you with big words and intellectual double-talk. They want to drag you off into endless arguments that never amount to anything. They spread their ideas through the empty traditions of human beings and the empty superstitions of spirit beings. But that’s not the way of Christ. Everything of God gets expressed in him, so you can see and hear him clearly. You don’t need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too. His power extends over everything.

Actually, Friday the 13th is a wonderful day to be a Christian. How wonderful to be free of fears and superstitions. How wonderful to walk victoriously in Christ. How wonderful to know that God Almighty is on our side every day, even on Friday the 13th.
Gracious God,
Be praised for giving us freedom in Christ.
Be praised for protecting us all the time.
Be praised for your tender loving care.
Help us to daily embrace your powerful grace
and always live freely as your children.
